New location was awful. Got the fajitas wrap and it was awful! It was chicken with lettuce and salsa and cheese.... not much of a fajita.... fries were cold and greasy and service was miserable

I went to the new location in the old happy chef. Service was something to be desired. Food was not anything to brag about either. I hope that they can get it together in the new location.

The Royal Cafe is the type of cafe that you'll find throughout small-town America. Family owned and friendly and affordable. This is the best place in Story City to get breakfast, which they serve all-day. The first meal of the day is usually the purpose for our visits but they have a large menu, featuring American favorites like burgers and chicken. The Royal Cafe also has surprisingly good pizzas, that are in league with the best in town. The Royal Cafe is located below a retirement home, so the patrons tend to lean to a specific demographic. The foods featured on their brunch buffets tend to be directed at these patrons. I would steer clear of their brunch buffet. I have found it to be very bland, but they have some nice desserts.

Worst restaurant ever! The service was awful, the food was just ok, and the restaurant was cold, I gave my order to the waitress and had to show her what sandwich I was talking about in the menu. She didn't know if they served breakfast all day. We ordered coffee and it was warm, not hot. Had to flag her down for a second cup, and rather than bringing the pot to us, she picked up our cups and took them to the pot. Did we get the right cups back? When our order came, I had no fries. Her response was, "oh, you wanted fries, too?" She proceeded to order the fries, but by the time they came to the table, I was finished with the sandwich. They need to find servers who know what they're doing, or train the ones they have a bit better. Won't be going back anytime soon.

Typical small town diner. Atmosphere left a lot to be desired. Booths were worn out. Food was ok but was nothing spectacular. I needed a receipt and was given a hand written confusing receipt that basically said nothing.

Matt E.'s review is spot on. Simply wanted to add this is worth the 2 mile ride into town. There is a carousel, small museum. A well kept town.
